2011 Minimum Wage Decision

Fair Work Australia announced the results of its Annual Wage Review decision on 3 June 2011 raising the adult minimum wage by 3.4% to modern award weekly wages.
What does this mean for you?
- The minimum wage has risen from the previous rate of $15.00 per hour to $15.51 per hour; and $570 per week to $589.30 per week.
- All Employees who are paid award rates will receive a pay increase of $0.51 per hour.
Employers who have issued Employment Agreements should clarify the following:
- Employees who are paid Award Rates have received the wage increase of $0.51 per hour
- Employees who are paid Award Rates have had the penalty rates, allowances and overtime rates calculated in accordance with the increase
- Employees receiving an "all in rate or a salary" are within the scale stipulated in the Award including the wage increase of $0.51 per hour
- Employees who receive "all in rate or a salary" are being paid above award rates after penalty rates, allowances and overtime are calculated
The increase applies from the first pay period starting on or after 1 July 2011.
All employers should check their payroll obligations to make sure they are meeting their responsibilities.
